2014 – Springport Motor Speedway Points System

Points for Outlaw Super Late Models, Modifieds, and Sport Stocks

.Mod_LM_SS_Points.pdf

We changed the points system this year to try to accomplish several goals.
First we wanted a plan that would allow a driver to have a poor performing night or even miss a night to spend time with your family, repair your car or recover financially from car damage
Second, we wanted to put the main emphasis on winning races, both heat races and features.
Third, we wanted to maintain an incentive to qualify well but not weight qualifying so heavy as to give it as much value as actual race wins.

Total Points will be determined by best accumulation of points for the entire season. The track will drop one night from the total of all the points races completed. It will be your worst night of points accumulation or a night of zero points accumulation. This allows you to take a night off for family or repairs and stay in the points race.

2014 Updates:
One dropped night for Modifieds
One dropped night for Outlaw Super Late Models
Two dropped nights for Sport Stocks
Two dropped nights for Stock Car ABCs

ABC Stock Car Points

ABC_Points.pdf

We made some changes to the ABC points system this year in order to try to accomplish several things.

First, we have a very aggressive ABC schedule. At the end of the season we will drop your two worst nights of points accumulation or two nights of zero points. We are doing this to allow you time to do family events, repair a broken or damaged race car or even to financially recover from a broken or damaged race car

Second, we tried to take some emphasis off qualifying and put it on winning races, both features and heats but leave enough incentive through heat race points set up to make it advantageous to qualify as fast as you can.

Third, we tried to make it more attractive to work to stay in the same time bracket each week. The layout of the heat race points attempts to take away some incentive to spend part of the season in a higher class to pad your lower class points totals.

The idea of ABC or bracket style racing is to give cars and drivers of varying qualities and skill levels a chance to compete on a level playing field, to end the obsolescence of chassis and to dampen the effect of throwing mon-ey at your car. We hope to have made some in-roads to that effect with both our points system changes and our rules clarifications this season.
The class you run the most races in is where you will be scored for purposes of Championships. An even split will go to the higher class

The track will drop your two worst nights or two nights of zero accumula-tion. It is your actual scored nights that will determine your championship class.

Winning points of the B and C features will always start at one less that the points accrued by the last place in the next fastest division.

Heat races will be split up by car count. Features will be split up where track officials think will result in the best rac-ing for the fans, this will generally be at the greatest time split.

Breaking out of your qualifying time. Because of the structure of bracketed time format your qualifying time is very important. Breaking out of your time is considered drawing a caution. If you break out during the heat race you will simply be displayed the black flag and sent to the pits. You will be explained the differential by which you broke out of time – awarded the last place points for that event and be cycled to the rear of your division for the start of your feature. If you break out during the feature you will be shown the yellow flag – the race will be placed under caution. Your car will be at the front of the pack one lap down. The race will then be restarted green. If another caution comes out you will be cycled to the back of the field at that time. If not you will remain racing until you can make up your lap or the finish of the race whichever comes first. The penalty for breaking out is 1 at fault caution. This places you at risk for being unable to finish if you are deemed at fault for any other reason in a caution. The penalty for breaking out or sandbagging as commonly known is hard to keep the competition level even and from it becoming a factor in qualifying speed efforts placed. The fans deserve your best efforts all the time.
