Aaron Taylor Wins 357 Magnum At Springport
By: Chris Fobbe – Springport Motor Speedway

Springport, Michigan (8/16) –With a special increased purse, the stars of the FUG Printing Sport Stocks, four and six cylinder powered vehicles, were on display for the running of the first annual Magnum 357. Vores Compact Touring Series regular Abby Looman led the field down for the start, however she was quickly overtaken by a hard charging Steve Workman. Workman would almost immediately have his hands full with Defending Track Champion Aaron Taylor. The two drivers would exchange the lead back and forth over the remainder of the event, but it was Aaron Taylor taking the win, his sixth of the season. Workman was second with Nick Leonard, Dutch Taylor and Wayne Parkhurst completing the top five. Heat race wins were claimed by Looman and Workman. Aaron Taylor also was the quickest qualifier, turning a 19.040 (70.9 mph).

The first feature of the evening was the AP Motors A-Division running a 25-lap feature event. With current points leader and eight time feature winner Joe Barnhart not in attendance due to engine woes, it was anyone’s race. Craig Stephens would start things off on the point, and he held on for the opening handful of laps, however he would find himself overtaken by Mike Ammerman on lap six. Ammerman would try to drive away from the field, and while Earl Miles gave chase, it would be Ammerman taking his second win of the season. Miles was second, with Damon Place, John Trudell and Stephens completing the top five.

The RacingPartSales.com B-Division feature was next up. Dale Eglon started things off from the pole, but after a pair of laps, it was Bryan Noble commanding the field. Noble would not be headed as he drove away to his sixth win of the 2014 season. Mike Havens had a strong second with Tim Sharpe Jr., Dale Eglon and Mark Langs Jr. completing the top five.

The Ducks Point C-Store C-Division feature would be the next race on the track and it would be a very competitive contest. Jennifer Flagg started up front, but it was to be Tony Noble running the show at the completion of lap one. Noble would lead over half of the feature event, until being overtaken by Robert Kerber. Kerber was not safe for very long, however as Rich Kinch charged to the front on lap 11 of the 15 lap contest. Kinch would ride off into the sunset as he took his first win of the season. Kerber was second with Noble, Jerry Schroll and Flagg completing the top five.

Heat races for the ABC Stock Cars were won by Craig Stephens, Bryan Noble and Rich Kinch. The fastest qualifier was Mike Ammerman running a 16.301 (82.81 mph).

The final event of the evening was well worth the wait. The 30-lap feature for the Drive Train Specialists Modifieds was started off with Brian Roes up front. Roes would battle in the early portion of the event with Justin Kazmar, the two drivers swapping the lead in the opening handful of laps, before a very quick Gord Alblas systematically worked his way past the two top contenders. Alblas would soon be tied up with Reigning Rookie of the Year Mike Occhipinti. The Dearborn, Michigan pilot seemed to be stuck trying to find a path around Alblas, until a lane opened up underneath lapped car Nelson Haas, and Occhipinti drove past both cars to take the lead. Occhipinti would drive away from the field to claim his first win of the 2014 season. Walt Obrinske Jr. was second with Alblas, Nyle Weiler and Earl Miles completing the top five. Bill Pennington, Jim Butler and Weiler took the heat race wins, while Bobby Heyink claimed the fast qualifier honors with a 15.800 (85.44 mph).

This Saturday night we will crown our first Champion of the 2014 season. The Kitsmiller RV Outlaw Super Late Models crown their track champion.
