Massuch Nabs Another At Springport Motor Speedway
By: Chris Fobbe

Springport, Michigan (8/24) – Aaron Taylor has quickly become a master of negotiating lapped traffic around the Springport Motor Speedway, as he has twice in as many weeks, used traffic as a pick to keep a hard charging William Hartman behind him. A. Taylor nabbed the lead from his Hall of Fame grandfather Dutch Taylor on lap three, and tried to set sail, but Hartman kept him honest as they raced around the picturesque 3/8s (.375) mile high banked oval. Hartman looked to have a run underneath A. Taylor coming off of turn two near the conclusion of the event, but A. Taylor would hang close to lapped traffic, forcing Hartman to lose the momentum and he would be unable to find another opportunity to make the pass, as A. Taylor took his second straight feature win. Hartman had to settle for second with Mark Langs Jr., Mike Westphal and Ron Fizzell completing the top five. Dutch and Aaron Taylor were heat race winners with Aaron completing the hat trick, by setting the fastest lap in qualifying with an 18. 888.

The next feature of the evening would be the Performance Automotive Northwest Super Late Models putting on a show for the fans. Phil Massuch has had a spectacular season, but it looked risky, when an early start spin sent Massuch around, but the Eaton Rapids, Michigan pilot was able to come back to wrest the lead away from Scott Sigman on lap four, and while Dan Krzywosinski kept Massuch on his toes, he was unable to make the pass. Massuch took the win, with Krzywosinski second, Brian Huntley was third with Bob Bauer and Paul Jakubic completing the top five. Massuch claimed the heat win, as well as setting fast time with a 15.373.

An adventurous feature for the Duck’s Point C-Store A-Division feature would hit the track third. Jeremy Lutz would be scheduled to start on the pole, but a broke drive shaft under caution would cause the Jackson, Michigan driver to head pitside, his race over before it had a chance to truly start. This would hand the lead over to Earl Miles. Miles would have a short lived lead, as Andrew Ritter would storm around to the top spot. Miles would give chase around the Speedway, but it would be Ritter taking the win. Miles was second with Mike Ammerman, Damon Place and JD Hancock completed the top five.

The AP Motors B-Division was another thrilling event. Jerry Schroll started on the pole, but it was Jordan Harvey and Todd DeWaters creating the early excitement, as the two drivers traded the lead several times back and forth, until field settled in for a run. Jimmy Scavarda would work his way into position to restart on the outside of the front row following a caution, and the Holt, Michigan driver would lead the field the next time around. Scavarda looked to be on cruise, until the car began to misfire on the last lap heading down the backstretch. Scavarda would coast around and just barely cross the line ahead of Matt Holcomb, Randy Riever, Tom Coleman and Craig Stephens.

The final feature of the evening was the C-Division feature to close things out. Martin French would start on the pole, leading the opening handful of laps, however, French was clocked running more than a quarter second under his qualifying time, which would cause French to be scored as the last car on the lead lap, while he ran at the front of the field. This would hand the lead over to Steven Pelky, who would hold the point for one lap before Joe Biddinger snatched the lead away. Biddinger would set sail, as he took the big win, Robert Kerber was second, with a resilient French third. Fourth place went to Scott Booth with Steven Pelky closing out the top five.

ABC Stock Cars heat races were claimed by French, Bob Littlejohn, John Trudell and Miles. Kerber won the RacingPartSales.com Dash, while Joe Barnhart was the fastest qualifier with a 16.396.
