Modifieds Added to September 4th!

It's the inaugural running of the Michigan 200 for the Sunoco National Tour on Labor Day weekend as the all-new 2010 Mustangs and Camaros race under the lights Saturday night, September 4th. The current point leader, Brent Downey, will be battling it out for 200 laps against Bryan Ortiz, driver for Sterlin Marlin, ARCA driver AJ Henricksen, Tanner Berryhill, Joey Gase in the Butch Miller prepared car, Brian Blum, and others.

Also featured on this night will be the Bishop Performance Legends as they begin winding down their season. And as a last-minute spur of the moment addition to the event, we will have the Modifieds making their way to the 3/8ths mile speedway. This will be only the second time the Modifieds have raced at Springport this season. They were the feature show at the July 18th Racin' & Rockin' event.

Racing begins at 7:30 PM. Tickets are $20 for adults, $18 for seniors, Kids 6-12 are $5, and under 6 is free.

RacesOnTheWeb.com and Championship Night

For those of you who cannot make it out for Championship Night this coming Saturday, August 28, do not worry as we are taping the entire event. It won't be shown live, but you will be able to watch the event once it has been edited and made available for viewing. RacesOnTheWeb.com is hosting many of the race events we have run this season. Go to the Springport archives for all the racing action that has been made available this season as well as for when Championship Night is made available.

The 3 Wide Ride!

Have you taken the thrill ride of the summer yet? Check out the Courtesy Shuttle in the photo above! It's loaded with fans from the stands and the race cars are making some noise as they fly by on the inside and outside. See what it's like to experience being right in the middle of race traffic this Saturday as the season is winding down with just three more weekends of racing left.

See you on the 28th.

The Venom Stock Car Series

The most versatile stock car series competing at any local short track is the newly formed Venom Stock Car Series, sponsored by Venom Energy, a product of the Dr Pepper Seven Up company. The cars and drivers of this series will meet on August 28 for their final regular season event of 2010. This is Championship Night.

The series will then be off for one week as the Michigan 200 is held at Springport featuring the Sunoco National Tour, on September 4, in a big 200 lap Late Model Series event featuring their all-new 2010 Mustang and Camaro body styles. This will be the only stop in Michigan for this series in 2010.

The Venom Stock Car Series will be back for the weekend of September 10-12 as the headliner for the 11th running of the Michigan Cup. From a write-up after the 1991 season had ended:

"At the end of the season, Jim Barnhart suggested to Russ that he would like to put on a weekend show and open it up to all race drivers and call it the Michigan Cup. Densmore agreed to provide the track and Jim assembled an officiating crew. That was a great weekend in the middle of September, there were 53 Late Models that raced a 75 lap feature, 38 IMCA Modified cars that raced a 50 lap feature and 67 Pro Stock cars that raced. That was the beginning of the Michigan Cup seasonal final show."

The Michigan Cup is sure to be an exciting event as the 10th event which was held in 2007 had 131 cars show up from other tracks around the state.

TEST & TUNE
Every Thursday through the end of September

Springport Motor Speedway is a very good track to test your car. It's not too big and not too small. During the 2010 season, we have had a wide variety of different cars show up, Super Late Models, Sprint Cars, Midgets, Formula Indy Cars, vintage roadsters, along with many different Sportsman, Street Stock, and Pure Stock cars. And also, our own Venom Stock Cars and Oliver's Collision Pony Stocks have come to practice on Thursdays.

From 4 PM until dark, you never know who might show up and what they might bring. On August 12th, we had a visit from Gary Fedewa along with a number of his friends. Gary brought out his restored titanium Super Mod and let several people drive it.
