Springport, Michigan (7/12) – With many area tracks falling victim to Mother Nature, the Springport Motor Speedway managed to stay dry, and the fans were rewarded with a great night of racing.
The first feature event of the evening was the AP Motors of Jackson A-Division, running a 25-lap main event. Jeff Lonsberry lead the field down for the start, but it would be Craig Stephens holding the point for the opening circuit. After a pair of laps up front, Stephens would be overtaken by 2014 debutant Tim Hegner. A great three-car battle between Hegner, Joe Barnhart and Mike Ammerman would emerge with the three drives juking for position, when on lap nine Hegner slowed abruptly, his car eventually forced to retire with mechanical issues, which drew a caution. On the restart Ammerman would hold the point for a lap, but Barnhart would quickly overtake, cruising to his seventh win of the season. JD Hancock was second with Stephens, Damon Place and Ammerman completing the top five.
The Ducks Point C-Store of Duck Lake B-Division was the second feature to hit the 3/8s (.375) mile oval. The race was highlighted by a great battle between Bryan Noble and Randy Riever. The two drivers would fight hard for the custom Moonshine jug trophy. In the end, it would be Noble taking the victory, his fourth of the season. Riever was forced to settle for second while Dale Eglon, Tony Lynch and Eric Wagner completed the top handful of drivers.
Dale Eglon won the four-car Dash for the Ducks Point C-Store B Division. Heat races were claimed by Tony Noble, Tim Hegner and Riever. Fast qualifier honors went to Joe Barnhart with a 16.137.
The FUG Inc of Marshall Sport Stocks were the next event to hit the Speedway. Wayne Parkhurst would start on the pole, but the Taylor family stole the show. After starting at the back of the field Dutch and his grandson Aaron Taylor found themselves in the top two positions. They would spend the duration of the feature event battling for position, but in the end it would be the craft Hall of Famer Dutch Taylor taking his fourth win of the season. Aaron settled for second. DJ Marciniak, Jesse Thatcher and Parkhurst holding on to fifth. Dutch Taylor claimed the heat race, while Aaron Taylor set fast time with a 18.860.
