It was the second weekend of September, 2007, the car haulers rolled into Springport Motor Speedway and unloaded for the running of the big year-end event known as the Michigan Cup. It was the first time the Michigan Cup event had been held since 1999. This event was the signature event for the speedway at the time. Maurice Randall, who was the promoter in 2007, brought the event back and it was a rousing success.
The biggest success story of the event was the racing format which debuted on that weekend, and a series which was coined, the ABC Stock Car Series. The series worked because it allowed race cars from various classes and various tracks to all come in and race together under one set of rules. This format worked because no matter how fast a driver qualified, he would be placed into a feature event with other drivers and cars that qualified with similar times. There was a feature event for everyone who showed up. Nobody lost out in qualifying.
Randall is once again the promoter and is bringing back the ABC Stock Car Series to Springport Motor Speedway for 2010 on April 17th, and from that point on, it will be a regular attraction each and every Saturday night at the speedway. Drivers of all types of stock cars typically known as Sportsmans, Street Stocks, Pure Stocks, Pro Stocks, Super Stocks, Led Sleds, Bombers, and even some Limited Late Models, are making plans to appear on opening night. All indications are that opening night at Springport Motor Speedway on April 17th will be a bigger event than that big weekend of the Michigan Cup. Drivers from all around the local area as well as many drivers from all across Mid-Michigan, and even further away, are looking forward to competing in this series on Saturday nights.
To learn more about the ABC Stock Car Series, the ABC rules are posted on the springportmotorspeedway.com website.
Make plans to attend Springport Motor Speedway on April 17th for an exciting night of action packed racing.
